Dear Sir/Madam,

Regrettably, it has come to our attention that a number of Iranian asylum seekers in Holland are currently on hunger strike as a plea of desperation and in order to express their utter displeasure for the disappointing treatments that they feel they have been receiving from the country that they have come to take refuge in order to escape the appalling and inhumane conditions that they have been imposed to, whilst living in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

These people have undergone extremely difficult situations and have risked their lives and the lives of their families so that they could obtain some basic human rights and so they are understandably distraught by the way they have been imprisoned and the possibility of having to face deportation.

We are able to name 5 of those who have been on hunger strike for over 20 days and their health conditions are said to be deteriorating and they are as follows:

- Mr. Hamid Khani
- Mr. Mohammad Mehdi Neshat
- Mr. Naser Salehi
- Ms. Azita Eslami
- Mr. Mehran Memari

Whilst we are concerned about the well-beings of all our fellow Iranian refugees who seek peace, democracy and human rights, regardless of their political views and we endeavour to assist them in any way that we can, however we have obligations to our own members and we shall not hesitate to make sure that their standard rights are obtained. I can therefore confirm that Mr. Hamid Khani is a member of The CPI, (Constitutionalist Party of Iran).

May we remind you that under the rules of the radical Islamic regime in Iran should anyone disobey or criticise the system or any figure of authority, as in these cases, they are either sentenced to death or tortured in the most barbaric manners and there has also been many cases that they have simply vanished and not heard of again.

Given these facts I therefore hereby urge you to please reconsider their cases with utmost urgency and allow these people to retrieve their lives as any human being deserves.
