Dear Gov. Romney,
On behalf of the Constitutionalist Party of Iran, I would like to extend our most sincere thanks for your courageous stance against Mr. Khatami’s visit to your state and his planned speech at the University of Harvard.
As you correctly mentioned in your statement, Mr. Khatami pretends to be a moderate, but he is not. His main goal in life is to preserve and to protect the terrorist regime of the Islamic republic of Iran so the radical regime can continue its terrorist activities. The Islamic regime in Iran, as you know, has been violating the most basic human rights of its own citizens. It has been committing crimes against humanity through mass murder of tens of thousands of Iranians of all religious and political persuasions. It has been the foremost sponsor of international terrorism. It has been the most fervent advocate of Islamic radicalism in Iran and abroad. It has been opposing any prospect of peace in the Middle East, and has been consistently calling for the destruction and annihilation of the state of Israel. And finally it has never missed an opportunity to oppose America and the free world.
We strongly believe that the decision to grant Mr. Khatami a visa to come to America and to provide him with a platform to put a humane face on one of the most brutal and radical regimes in the Middle East was a wrong one. Mr. Khatami’s visit sends the worst possible message to the freedom loving people of Iran who are engaged in a heroic battle against the terrorist regime of the Islamic republic. It is very discouraging to the thousands of political prisoners and their families in Iran who have repeatedly heard from President Bush that “America stands by them and not by their tormentors as they stand for their freedom” to see Mr. Khatami being honored in America!
Mr. Governor, your decision to speak up against Mr. Khatami’s visit was so important to us and to the countless number of freedom fighters and their families in Iran and abroad. Iranians who support freedom and democracy need and deserve all the moral support they can get from the free people of the world. We shall never forget that you gave our people that support.
Once again Mr. Governor, please accept our most sincere appreciations and thanks. We, at the Constitutionalist Party of Iran have no doubts that America, as repeatedly stated by President George W. Bush stands by the Iranian people in their struggle to regain their freedom and to topple the brutal and terrorist regime of The Islamic Republic.
When one is faced with evil, silence should never be an option! Thank you Gov. Romney for speaking up!
