Dear Sir/Madam,
The Islamic Republic of Iran, one of the signatories of the universal agreement of the Human Rights and its referred recognition of the rights of children, has repeatedly violated such rights and since 1990 there have been at least 18 executions of juvenile offenders who were below the age of 18 at the time that they supposedly committed the crime.
In 2005 alone, at least 8 youngsters who were sentenced with the death penalty for having committed under-aged crime were executed, despite the plea of the Children’s Rights Committee of the United Nations to stop such dreadful acts and reminding the Islamic Republic’s government, of Iran’s commitment to the declaration of the Human Rights.
Delara Darabi, a 19 year old girl is now awaiting execution for a murder that she has been accused of committing when she was 17 years old. Delara claims that she and her co-offender Amir-Hossein entered a property for an act of burglary when they got disturbed by one of the residents whom was then killed by Amir-Hossein; however, believing that criminals who are younger than 18 do not receive death penalty, he asks Delara to falsely admit to the murder.
Whilst Amir-Hossein receives only a 10 year prison sentence, Delara who was only 17 at the time is due to be executed.
We hereby urge you to please once again remind the Islamic Republic regime of their commitment to the signed Human Rights declaration, in particular to the rights of the under-aged, and condemn their inhumane acts of injustice accordingly.
