Dear Human Rights Activist,
We would like to bring to your attention a gross violation of Human Rights that occurred on Sunday Feb 6th 2005 in Evin Prison in Tehran, Iran.
It was brought to our attention that during a family visit with political prisoners Mr. Mostafa Piraan and his son Mr. Peymaan Piraan who are both being detained in Evin prison in Tehran, Mr. Piraan and his son were severely beaten in front of their family by the prison officials. It should also be noted that Mr. Mostafa Piraan is severely ill and suffers from Bronchitis. Both Mr. Mostafa Piraan and his son Mr. Peymaan Piraan have been kept in solitary confinement for extended periods under extreme conditions.
This gross violation of human rights extends to the family of Mr. Piraan particularly Ms. Piraan and her 18-year-old daughter whose every move is under surveillance by the security officials in order to put extra pressure on them and their loved ones in Evin prison.
Sadly, it is neither the first time nor will it be the last time that the Islamic Republic officials violate the human rights of prisoners and their families. But the severity of this recent beating and the fact that it occurred in front of Ms. Piraan and her daughter, is cause for serious concern. The possibility of even more severe violation of the Piraan family’s human rights is very real and extremely disturbing.
We would like to express our extreme concern for the well being of the Piraan family and strongly urge you on humanitarian grounds to launch an inquiry into this matter and use all means at your disposal to protect the Piraan family as well as other political prisoners in Iran.
Sincerely Yours
