Ahmadinejad’s despicable speech in UN’s Durban II Conference that rightly enraged the civilized world has nothing to do with the Iranian people. Iran’s Jewish community is the oldest of its kind in the world. Iranian Jews for nearly three millennial have been continuously living along side other Iranians in peace and harmony during the good times and the bad; and in all these thousands of years they have not suffered systematic persecution. Throughout Iran’s long history, Iranians have always been friends and allies of the Jewish people and the Jewish State and contrary to the rulers of I.R.I. who deny the Holocaust, not only consider Holocaust a historical fact but also a shameful chapter in Human history that should never be allowed to be repeated.
The presence of Ahmadinejad and the shameful speech he gave in a conference set for evaluating UN’s efforts in fighting racism and discrimination not only made Iranians more embarrassed of having such a government, but made the very usefulness of Durban II questionable. If the end result of years of efforts by UN is to provide a platform for the likes of Ahmadinejad and the regime he represents which is soiled by discrimination and crimes against humanity; then some other venues to fight racism should be considered.
We applaud all those representatives who left the conference during Ahmadinejad’s speech in protest
