The ‘Jamkarani’ type regime has started a new type of cultural revolution by conducting a program of demolishing the Iranian culture and destroying what has been achieved through the one hundred and fifty years of revival and modernization. In screen one of the cultural revolution, during the commencing years of the revolution, the aim was to turn the universities into influential centres and make them Islamic which lead to the three year closure of senior educational institutions. That program was defeated and the Universities once again re-engaged in retaining their cultural and political leading role in thought and vitality, despite all limitations and pressures.
In the second screen of the cultural revolution which has now commenced by attacks to universities from all angles, both the aim and the method differ from the first screen. In the first screen, Moslem intellectuals and philosophers from the Hezbollah front liners and guided by the first President of the Islamic Republic, attacked Tehran University. This time though, there is no physical attack involved, however more gradual and slower motion tactics such as retiring certain lecturers or making them redundant, and arresting and scaring off university students nationally are being used.
